Science learning pathways for young children

چکیده
Preschool Pathways to Science (PrePS©) is a science and math program for pre-K children that has been developed by a team of developmental psychologists in full collaboration with preschool directors, teachers and other staff. The PrePS© approach is rooted in domain-specific theories of development, theories that assume that different areas of knowledge are organized into separate mental structures as opposed to domain-general ones like concrete operations. Features of this theoretical stance are outlined, and their implications for educational practice are illustrated using examples from classroom practice. Specific attention is paid to the importance of science process skills, the need to connect experiences using a central concept, and the roles of math, communication, and literacy in a science-based learning approach. Finally, the critical interdependence of basic research and classroom practice is discussed. © 2004 Published by Elsevier Inc.

Young Children's Interaction with Science Exhibits
Young children interact with an exhibit at a science center in many ways. Sometimes they use the exhibit in the way it is intended; we observe and we think they are learning. Other times children use the exhibit in unintended ways. Are they learning then? or just playing? Our research into how young children use interactive exhibits designed for 3 to 7 year olds prompted us to find a structure ...
متن کاملEffect of age and three different feedback receiving on a hand movement pattern
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of two different age groups (children and young adult) to learning of temporal-special coordination hand movement pattern. Sixty subjects according to the age (children – young adult) and receiving feedback (100%, omitted, self-control) were randomly divided into six groups. This study was done in three days. All subjects practice 100 trails...
متن کاملEpidemiological Distributions and Critical Contributions to the Growth Rate for Infants and Young Children in Hubei Province of China during 2017 to 2018: A Review
The growth rate for infants and young children manifests the significant differences between age, sex, regional, and seasonal distributions. The growth rate for infants and young children is a complex process that depends on interaction of the genetic and environmental factors. All genetic and environmental factors jointly contribute to the growth rate for infants and young children, for exampl...
متن کاملThe Impact of Student-Centered Pedagogy on Training in a Pediatrics Course
Introduction: The most important change in medical education is a shift from didactic teacher-centered and subject-based teaching to the use of interactive, problem-based, student-centered learning. Student-centered approach is a teaching approach t that encompasses replacing lectures with active learning, integrating self-paced learning programs and cooperative group situations, ultimately hol...
متن کاملMechanisms of theory formation in young children.
Research suggests that by the age of five, children have extensive causal knowledge, in the form of intuitive theories. The crucial question for developmental cognitive science is how young children are able to learn causal structure from evidence. Recently, researchers in computer science and statistics have developed representations (causal Bayes nets) and learning algorithms to infer causal ...
